Taxis
The convenient option
Missed your bus? Train got in later than expected? Travelling late at night? Sometimes you just need a lift right here, right now. That’s where taxis and minicabs come in. They are certainly more expensive than some other options, but if you work out the total costs of owning a car, that would buy you a lot of taxi rides!
The Details
-
Taxis have lights to show their availability, and you can flag them down on the street. Minicabs need to be booked in advance and can’t be flagged down on the street.
Two of the biggest minicab companies in Oxfordshire are Royal Cars and 001 Taxis. With both services you can book online or through their app. With 001 Taxis you can also book using WhatsApp, and with Royal Cars you can book over the phone.
For taxis, use the old fashioned approach and just flag down an empty taxi, and pay by cash or credit/bank card in the cab.
-
All hackney carriages are wheelchair accessible, though they may not be able to carry every kind of wheelchair. There are also a few companies in Oxford that provide accessible taxis, including Kit Mobility, Royal Mobility and Royal Cars.

Benefits of taking a taxi
Fast. Taxis can get you somewhere with the speed of driving, but without owning a car.
Convenient. A taxi is a handy choice in a pinch if your other options aren’t available.
Safe. If you’re going out for a meal, a drink, or even ‘out out’, taking a taxi means that you can enjoy yourself without worrying about going over the limit to drive, and you can travel in a group with friends.
